Author: Lisa M. Basso

Rayna struggles to piece her life back together, but hiding in plain sight from the police, the SS Crazy, and the Fallen isn’t a foolproof plan—something Kade, the World’s Worst Roommate, reminds her of everyday. The late nights of failing to teach Ray how to protect herself against the Fallen are getting to Kade, changing him in ways he doesn’t like, and after a family emergency sends Ray back into Cam’s arms, Kade decides he’s had enough. News of Rayna’s resurfacing brings both angels and the Fallen to San Francisco by the dozens, all eyes scouring the city for the girl with the gray wings. Rayna will need both Kade and Cam’s help to ensure her family’s safety, navigate the new dangers and enemies springing up all over the city, and manage the surprises that arise with her new set of wings.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
- A Slither of Hope picks up where A Shimmer of Angels left off. A month has passed and Rayna’s life is still upside down. Basically, Ray finds herself in hot water again with both the angels and the Fallen because of … how we left Rayna at the end of the previous book (see, spoiler free. You’re welcome).

How did you come up with the idea for the cover?
- The cover was a collaboration between my publisher and the cover designer. I wish I had anything do with the A Slither of Hope cover since it’s so spectacular, probably my favorite out of the entire series, if I’m being honest.

If it was made into a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?
- Ooh! I love this question. I would love to see Emma Roberts play Rayna. She such a skilled actress and I think she could really bring Ray’s struggle to life. As for the boys, Alex Pettyfer would be amazing as Cam, and for Kade I could see either a younger Ian Somerhalder or a younger Tyler Hoechlin (Derek from Teen Wolf) or a fun match-up of the two.

What made you want to become an author?
- First, I love to write. Fiction is where my heart lives. Second, all I’ve ever wanted out of a career is something that’s fulfilling and satisfies me on an emotional level. And third, it’s so much fun. Everything about writing is amazing, even when it’s a pain, there are always hints of joy to be found.

Who, or what, inspires you?
- I’m inspired by everything around me. Art, books, TV, movies, video games, fashion, and life. I’m a firm believer that inspiration is all around us.

Where is your favourite place to write?
- I have a wonderful office/library/guest room in my house. There’s something about quiet and stillness that helps me think enough to actually write. A huge window looks out over my backyard and some of the famous hills of San Francisco. With the door shut and the windows open, I’m in heaven.

What is your favourite movie that was based on a book?
- I love love loved The Hunger Games and Catching Fire.

Name two of your favourite authors.

- Maggie Stiefvater and Tahereh Mafi. They both write beautifully lyrical prose but manage to set their writing styles apart. Maggie’s books are spellbinding, transporting you full-fledged into whatever book she’s written. Tahereh brings a gritty realism to her Shatter Me series and unique writing style. I can’t wait to see what new ideas both authors will come up with next.

Tell us a random fact about yourself.
- Um…I’m a huge dork. I own geeky shirts, play videogames, lurve books, and obsess over TV and movies.

Who would play you in the movie about your life?
- I’d like to say Emma Stone not just because she’s crazy hot, but because her personality (snarky, sarcastic, funny) kind of matches mine.

Tell us an interesting fact about where you live.
- San Francisco is amazing. We have the Golden Gate Bridge, world-famous cable cars, beaches, and hundreds of years of history everywhere. It’s really a melting pot of cultures and decades.

Tell us one thing that's on your bucket list.
- I want to snorkel in Hawaii. Which I actually get to do on my honeymoon at the end of the year. Woohoo!

Favourite myth / fairytale?
- I love The Little Mermaid—the Hans Christian Anderson version. If you haven’t read it, you should. It’s dark and wonderful.

Who/What did you want to be when you were a kid?
- First I wanted to be a singer, then an actress, then … I really wasn’t sure, then a racecar driver, then a massage therapist, then a professional student, and finally a writer. I’m a bit all over the place sometimes and just glad I found my real calling. :)
